the cat in the hat

throughout the cat in the hat, the cat is dominated by id for the majority of the book. he walks in at the beginning trying to do what he can to get the kids to join in his fun. this whole time the fish is telling all of them that it's not a good idea, but the cat continues to show the kids all these new games and ways of having fun. he stays and plays with the kids while the mother is not at home. he even creates a mess in the house not seeming to care what happens to it. it is not until towards the end the cat changes his mind and therefore changes which part dominates him. when the fish announces that the mother is on her way home, the children change their minds and throw the cat out. the cats superego takes over and he decides to go in the house and clean up the mess he caused.
in the book, the cat kinda plays with the fish and kinda tosses him around the house a bit. this whole time the fish is trying to tell the kids that the cat should not be here. the cat can hear the fish perfectly because he continues to tell the kids to have fun and shows them new games. he shows that he doesn't care what the fish has to say. he only wants the kids to have fun.it's just his idea of fun goes a bit too far. the cat is too involved in having fun and trying to help the kids have fun that he doesn't think of what happens around them while they are having fun and what the consequences will be.
in my opinion i think both the cat and fish were wrong. the cat was wrong for only thinking about having fun and breaking all the rules. the fish was wrong because he was thinking the kids should just sit there being bored while their mom was away. i think that it's important for the kids to have fun. let them live their life because they're just kids. they just need to know how much fun is too much. i know everyone has gotten to the point of too much fun at least once in their life. (if you haven't, you're boring as hell) which is ok to do because then you usually learn when you are and are not able to have that much fun. the cat i guess in a way helped these kids realize that. the two kids had too much fun and in the end saw the consequence of having too much fun. but they did learn what kind of fun is okay when their mom is away.

persepolis blog number one

i think she chose this format because some of the events shes trying to describe, can't be described in words. so she uses pictures to help tell the story. sometimes an image is all you need.
persepolis is similar to maus because they're both based off of a true story and they're both big times in history. maus is about the author's father's life during the holocaust. persepolis is about the author's childhood during the revolution in iran. i wouldn't call persepolis a comic book. i think it's just more of a novel that just happens to have pictures on every page.
i think it's beter that she didn't fictionalize the story. writing about her real life shows people that this stuff is actually going on in the world. readers are able to see what other people are ahving to do on a dat to day basis.if it were fictional people could think it's all fake, that it doen't matter at all.
reading this book tells you a bit of history about iran.it shows people there are going through similar problems as many other countries. people there are fighting to change the government. many people dont agree with it. later in the book people were leaving iran. peope were having to leave becuse the country they lived in for so many years was too dangerous for them to live in any longer. during the time of the book, iran changes dramatically. (sorry, i would type more, i'm just not able to at the moment. maybe in the next blog.)

feed project reflection

my feed contains lots of pictures of animals and books because i love to read and i love animals of course. i do love other things but to put all my interests in a collage would call for a much bigger piece of paper, which i did not have. so i decided to put two of the main things i'm known for: books and animals (lots of the time squirrels, idky) i guess this shows americans like to buy stuff. alot of the things on my collage and alot of other peoples have to be paid for in one way or another. people create things related to peoples interests to keep them interested and keep them buying. a good example is the twlight book series. twilight is one of the books i have on my collage. that book sold millions. then the movie came out and i bet it too made millions, maybe more. then along with the movie are all these little unnecessary things to keep people interested and have them spend more money. things such as posters, clothes, dolls and other item obsessed people would want. but americans want to spend money. companies have learned to brainwash us into thinking we need to have certain things in order to live.
i think the point anderson is trying to say is that if we continue to spend the way we do, abuse nature the way we do, and only pay attention to technology, the world will and up in a very similar way it did in feed. what we need to do is pull ourselves away from all the shopping and technology and money. not completely at first (i don't think america could survive a shock like that), but gradually. learn to enjoy our world and what it's given us. not what greedy lazy people have made for us. technology brainwashes people, like tv and other stuff like.
in the world of the story, people are nothing without the feed. violet's dad had trouble getting a job without the feed. most of the people in that world have lived with the feed basically their whole lives. its completely taken over their minds. if the feed was to be taken out of their heads it would be like taking away a piece of their brain, something that has control over their body. without the feed they would probably not survive after having it in. that's what happened to violet. her feed started malfunctioning, then so did the rest of her body.
technology and media impact people in this culture.we can't seem to survive without it. we always need it. it tells us what we like and dislike.it tells us how our lives should be lived, what we need to survive.
i think titus ordered all those pants because he was upset. and it seems in that world, spending money was the only way they could cope with their emotions. whenever titus was feeling a certain emotion, it looked like his feed showed an advertisement that could help cheer him up. like4 at the end when he's sad about violet. the feed shows him an ad for blue jeans. it says everything must go. the technology and media is saying everything must go. everything in the world is ending. nobody has any skin, there are riots everywhere. the world is ending everything is leaving.

visual essay

the world is boring if each and every person is the same.

being different is what brings life to the world.

there will always be differences in the world

being an individual is being your own person, not being a copy

these pictures show that comformity and individuals are all around the world. it's our choice to pick between the two. but no matter how much people look alike, they will always be different. there will alwys be differences in the world. old and young, light and dark, male and female, these are clear differences that help establish an individual. but if someone changes how they are, what their interests are, just to be like everyone else? that is not an indiviual. how can one be an indiviual, be their own person, if they're just likeeveryone else? i just don't see it. i think if you be yourself and are not afraid of who you are, then you can be happy. (just like the smiley face above)

feed blog number two

i would never miss the feed. maybe only if i really needed something. but my life shouldn't' depend on a piece of technology a corporation put in my brain. i can last now without a feed. i have other resources i can go to. i would get very irritated having something in my head reading all my thoughts. something that knows everything i do. i already have me doing that and i don't like it. and then the feed talks to you. i've got enough voices in my head, i don't need a computer talking to me too. especially if all it's talking about is stuff i can buy. i only need so many things.
the characters in the book might think it's called a "feed" because it feeds you all this information. but it could really be called a feed because the big corporations are feeding off of the people through the "feed". the "feed" takes in the information and interests of the person it belongs to and it sends it to the feednet place. so they know everything you are interested in. the "feed" knows exactly which places to bring you to shop and you can buy all the things you love. this is just a way for the companies to create more things they know people love so it will make those companies stronger and more powerful. and since they know some people will do what they can to fit in with everybody else. just be another "normal" person. the companies will create all these new trends so that's more stuff people will go out to pay for. that just makes them even more strong and more powerful.
i don't understand why violet says she wants to be "normal". i don"t like that word. many people believe that to be like everyone else. why would someone like to be like everyone else? that's boring and alot of work. it's boring because to be like everyone else, there's no surprise. everythings the same. everythings predictable. it's alot of work because you have to keep up with everything that's going on. if the part in the hair changes. and you don't change it, you won't be the same as everyone else. they'll just make fun of you because your hair looks "weird". violet shouldn't worry about being like everyone else. if she was like everyone else, she would be like calista. and they don't really like each other. violet shoul'd just continue being who she is. the word "normal" is just a stupid word. the definition of it changes all the time. they think it"s "normal" to have a computer controlling their brains. i think that's crazy. we need different people in the world. we need people to think differently. if everyone thought the same (and very shallow) there wouldn't be any great ideas anymore. everyone would just be a robot, following technology. being controlled by a single computer chip.
it's feeding off of their lives.

feed blog number one

it's weird how they go to the moon and say it sucked. to go to the moon now people need lots of training and stuff. it would be kinda cool if i were able to go to the moon just for spring break. but i don't understand why the even have spring break. yeah they go to "schooltm", but they don't do anything. they can't read or write. they don't even have to use their brains. they have the feed to think for them. today, we're forced to read books and write about what we read. people force us to think in school. we need breaks. otherwise we could die from over thinking too much and we wouldn't be able to think wt all. the world would go mad because every one's thinking too much and dying because no one had any breaks to rest their minds. people would end up with the mind of bush!
ok, so, what was i talking about again? oh right, the moon. yeah, reading titus reaction to what he thinks of the moon, shows that these are some kids that tend to get what they want in life. going someplace that would be completely amazing to another kid isn't to them because they've already experienced all the things on the moon.
i think the language they use is weird. but i also think the language my parents and even erin used when they were younger is weird. my step dad still talks like that sometime. it kinda gets on my nerves. but i know that when i grow up, my kids will think the way i talk now sounds weird. language changes over time. right away when you open the book you see there are some words that are a bit different than the words used today. they are unrecognizable. so it starts to make you think about how far into the future this goes. how long our world has until it's completely run by technology and corporations. unless of course we do something to stop it. but even the adults an technology use the same language as the kids. now the language automated operators isn't the same as a hundred years ago, but it doesn't talk like us.
i guess the trends change so much because everyone has access to the information. calista and quendy are looking at their feed and they see this star has parted their hair to the left instead of the right. they don't want to be social outcasts so they decide to do the same.i don't like this version of the future. it's too controlling. i wouldn't be able to live a life like that. i hate technology. but i am guilty for being on my phone and computer all the time. technology still sucks.
