throughout the cat in the hat, the cat is dominated by id for the majority of the book. he walks in at the beginning trying to do what he can to get the kids to join in his fun. this whole time the fish is telling all of them that it's not a good idea, but the cat continues to show the kids all these new games and ways of having fun. he stays and plays with the kids while the mother is not at home. he even creates a mess in the house not seeming to care what happens to it. it is not until towards the end the cat changes his mind and therefore changes which part dominates him. when the fish announces that the mother is on her way home, the children change their minds and throw the cat out. the cats superego takes over and he decides to go in the house and clean up the mess he caused.
in the book, the cat kinda plays with the fish and kinda tosses him around the house a bit. this whole time the fish is trying to tell the kids that the cat should not be here. the cat can hear the fish perfectly because he continues to tell the kids to have fun and shows them new games. he shows that he doesn't care what the fish has to say. he only wants the kids to have fun.it's just his idea of fun goes a bit too far. the cat is too involved in having fun and trying to help the kids have fun that he doesn't think of what happens around them while they are having fun and what the consequences will be.
in my opinion i think both the cat and fish were wrong. the cat was wrong for only thinking about having fun and breaking all the rules. the fish was wrong because he was thinking the kids should just sit there being bored while their mom was away. i think that it's important for the kids to have fun. let them live their life because they're just kids. they just need to know how much fun is too much. i know everyone has gotten to the point of too much fun at least once in their life. (if you haven't, you're boring as hell) which is ok to do because then you usually learn when you are and are not able to have that much fun. the cat i guess in a way helped these kids realize that. the two kids had too much fun and in the end saw the consequence of having too much fun. but they did learn what kind of fun is okay when their mom is away.
